About Me
My Story
Welcome to my artistic universe, where each stroke of the brush tells a tale and every canvas is a portal into my journey of resilience and creative exploration. I'm David Murphy, and my artistic odyssey began with graphic art, traversed through the intricacies of civil engineering, and ultimately found its solace in the therapeutic embrace of painting.
After college, I dipped my toes into the world of graphic art before venturing into the realm of civil engineering. However, health challenges, marked by chronic fatigue and pain, altered the course of my professional path. It was during these trying times that I discovered the healing power of art, initially embracing painting as a hobby and later as a profound outlet for expression.
My artistic endeavors took a philanthropic turn as I dedicated a series of paintings to charitable causes. Noteworthy milestones include the recent sale of a captivating piece at deVeres art auction in Dublin and successful works featured in Morgan O Driscoll auctions in Cork. These achievements have paved the way for my upcoming solo exhibition at the prestigious gallery at No. 2 Perry Square, People's Park, set to unfold in the first two weeks of February 2024.
In the vast canvas of my creations, you'll find a fusion of contemporary and abstract styles, primarily brought to life with the vibrant interplay of acrylics and oils. Each painting is a labour of love, demanding as much as two months of meticulous dedication. Only those pieces that resonate with my inner artistic satisfaction find their way to display or sale.
Inspiration for my work flows from the timeless masterpieces of Henri Matisse, Joan Miró and Jackson Pollock, reflecting my deep admiration for the courage it takes to birth a work of art. Beyond personal ambition, I aspire for my paintings to reach a wider audience, believing in the profound positive impact that art can have on individuals.
One of my recent creations delves into the darker facets of human experience, portraying the ominous clouds of war and the spilled blood that ensues. Through this piece, I implore society to break the silence surrounding such atrocities, drawing parallels to historical struggles and cautioning against the consequences of unchecked power.
In the local cultural landscape, my name has found a place in the city paper, with numerous features shedding light on the significance of my artistic contributions. These glimpses into my life and work serve as a testament to the impact of art on the community.
Living in an era where every word echoes across the vast expanse of the internet, I advocate for thoughtful expression. I recognize the profound impact words can have on lives and implore individuals to weigh their words carefully. Understanding diverse perspectives and fostering dialogue over discord are principles I hold dear.
As I navigate the ever-changing landscapes of art and society, my work is not just a display of colours and shapes; it's a profound message woven into each canvas. Step into my world, where art becomes a powerful tool for reflection, dialogue, and societal transformation.
